Effects of work on the operations of felling and wood assortment processing in a beech thinning

Abstract

This paper presents the results of a research of the efficacy of applying the organizational form of work 2CHO (2 chain saw operators) in tree felling and wood assortment processing during a beech thinning. This study was performed in an 80-year-old pure stand of beech in western Serbia, in the hilly- mountainous region of Jelje, i.e. the FMU ‘Jelje-Magleš’’ as part of the forest administration Valjevo and FE ‘‘ Boranja ‘‘ Loznica. The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of implementation of the 2CHO organizational form of work on the operations of felling and wood assortment processing in beech thinnings. The felling of trees and wood assortment processing was performed using chain saws Stihl MS 441 and Husqvarna 353. In this research, the applied study investigated time and labor, in order to asses the effects of work on felling and wood assortment processing. Fuel consumption was determined by the method of topping up the tank. On the basis of the results of this research, it can be concluded that the effects of work on felling and processing of trees are greater when the applied organizational form of work is 2CHO. In addition, fuel consumption is lower in the 2CHO organizational form of work compared to the consumption in the organizational form 1CHO + 1A (1 chain saw operator – 1 assistant).
