Abstract

This paper presents the results of investigation of the crown structures and stand density correlated with the optimal number of trees in two different age stands of black alder, but nearly the same production site potential. The first stand was at the age of 53 and second 65. Starting from the interaction between elements of the crown structures and other growth element, we obtained optimal number of trees in the stand, which is the basis for the projection of economic and biologically acceptable patterns for management.
